He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Bates and Eva "Bernice" Bates (Kane); and his siblings, Merle Bates and Edith Baker. He is survived by: his former wife Patricia "Pat" Evelyn Courtney; his wife Patricia Bates of Fairfield; his daughters, Brenda Bisgard (Darrel) of Fairfield and Paula Adam (Mike) of Fairfield; his grandchildren, Renee Telfer (Mike), Troy Bisgard (Angie), Nathan Roland, Jeremy Roland (Kelsie), Charissa Hickenbottom (Corey), Brian Adam (Tracy), Aaron Adam (Shelby), Angie Haines (Brock) and Briale Kessel; and his pet Albi. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.
Those attending the service are required to wear a mask, due to family health issues.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Noah's Ark or EveryStep Hospice.
