He is survived by: his wife Sheila "Shey" Smith (Parcell); his former wife Velma Smith of Burlington, IA; his children, Marty (Jeff), Jeff (Rowena) and Charity of Des Moines, IA; his stepchildren, Chuck Hoekstra of Fairfield, IA, Nikki Miller (Dave) of Iowa City, IA, Eric Hoekstra of Lisbon, IA and Melody Hird (Joe) of Libertyville, IA; his friend Michael Clever of Fairfield, IA; his daughter-in-law Sarah Manning (Terrence) of West Burlington, IA; his grandchildren, Jordan Smith (Tessa), Stacia Smith of Burlington, IA, Charlie, Grace Miller of Iowa City, IA, Ethan, Kyler Hoekstra of Lisbon, IA, Brandon Ford (Shelby) and Bailey Hird; and his great grandchildren, Jazlyn Smith, Ryan and Luna Ford Leroy.
