He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Tip" Simpson and Thelma Simpson Sr. (Lyons); and his brothers, Tom and Joe "Larry" Simpson. He is survived by: his wife Linda Kay Stagers; his grandchildren, Alexander Simpson, Austin Simpson, Hannah Simpson, Nichole Septer, Madison Septer, Ronin King and Irie King; his great grandchild Charlotte Morris; and his sister Pam Huffman.
