She was predeceased by: her parents, William E. McElligott and Clara McElligott (Ryan); her husband Richard Flaherty; her parents-in-law, James Flaherty and Alvina Flaherty; her siblings, Kathleen Long (Bob) and Ambrose McElligott (Alice); and her siblings-in-law, Bob Bleakmore, Peggy McElligott, Marilyn McEachron, Dr. Joseph McEachron and Jack Kramer.
She is survived by: her children, Tom Flaherty (Sue) of Cedar Rapids, Jim Flaherty (Dianne) of Fairfax, Mike Flaherty (Denise) of Fairbank and Kathy Fowler (Kevin) of Eden Prairie, MN; her siblings, Don McElligott of Cedar Rapids, Leo McElligott of Des Moines and Marge Bleakmore of St. Paul, MN; her sister-in-law JoAnn Kramer of Cedar Rapids; and her grandchildren, Tim Flaherty (Caite) of Cedar Rapids, Aubrey Wells (Cody) of Chicago, Erin Riezman (Matt) of Des Moines, Allison Collins of Cedar Rapids, Keith Flaherty (Lindsey) of Blairstown, Katie Flaherty (Matt Howell) of Fort Collins, CO, Rachel Kane (Alan) of Cedar Rapids and Ryan Flaherty (Madelyn) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established in Mariam's name to be used for her favorite charities.
