He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Ballou and Helen Ballou (Richards); and his siblings, David Ballou and Kathy McClurg. He is survived by: his grandson Cameron; his wife Wanda Ballou of Fairfax, Iowa; his children, Vicki Ballou (Steve Oswalt) and Eric Ballou (Melea) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his grandchildren, Emily Reding (Nick), Erin Ward (Cory) and Jacob Webber (Holly); his great grandchildren, Gabriel and Ada Reding; and his cousin Jeanne Ballou Thompson.
