He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Swanson and Wava Swanson (Petrie); and his son Eric Swanson. He is survived by: his child Erin (Katie); his wife Marilyn Baker; and his children, Jack Swanson (Janet), Jill Rourke (Larry) and Katie Smith.

Tommy loved to learn and in the spirit of learning donated his body to Des Moines University for anatomical and surgical study.
