He was predeceased by: his parents, Delmar Boyer and Emily Frost (Hanna); his son Guy Boyer; his stepfather Dale Frost; and his sister Darlene Brocka.

He is survived by: his wife Marlys Moore (Williams); his daughter Shenita Barnes (Tim) of Fairbank; his siblings, Larry, Greg Boyer of Cedar Falls, Michelle Bisbee (Frost), Marcy Frost of Hudson and Jan Guzman of Waterloo; and his grandchildren, Brandon Boyer of Waterloo, Corbin Barnes of Cedar Falls and Emma Barnes of Fairbank. He is also survived by loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to Toys for Tots- a charity he supported for many years- or directed to the family.
