He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cobb and Plinie Harper Matheny; his wife Ruth Matheny; his daughter Crystal Salas; his granddaughter Mary Gibson; and his siblings, JB Harper, Lucy Cobb, Joe Harper, Ruby Rickard, Dorothy Boyle, Ernestine Dossette and Jane Sizemore.
He is survived by: his mother-in-law Ruth Fisher; his close friend Patricia DeVore; his children, Robert Risley (Linda), Angela Matheny (Del Rich), Cynthia Anderson (Bill), John Michael Matheny and Melody Matheny; and his siblings, Ray Thomas (Dora Lee), Ruth Rust (Bobby), Connie Cornette (Joe), Sue Dunn, Evelyn Stobaugh, Opal Woodruff (Jimmy), Martine Roper and Joyce Griffin (Leaman). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren.
