He was predeceased by: his parents, Erwin V. Wheeler and Marie Wheeler (Bengard); and his siblings, Carole (Russell "Bud" Wahlert), Don Elda Wheeler and Leonard (Nadine Wheeler). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
