She was predeceased by: her parents, Albert Knudsen and Helga Knudsen (Larsen); her husband Kenneth Schroeder; her siblings, Dale Knudsen, Donald Knudsen (Betty), Eunice Rocca (Fred) and Erma Etringer Roethler (Reynold); and her son-in-law James Andersen.
She is survived by: her children, Barbara Squires (Douglas) of Plymouth, Douglas Schroeder (Deb) of Estherville, Linda Schlapkohl (Keith) of Stockton, Kevin Schroeder (Teresa) of Austin and Beth Andersen of Urbandale; her siblings, Velma Wessel (Duane) and Keith Knudsen (Vernice); and her sister-in-law Fern Knudsen. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to establish a nursing scholarship fund in Val Schroeder's name.
