He was predeceased by: his parent Annette Hendrickson; and his parents-in-law, Eddie Lamkin and Margaret Lamkin. He is survived by: his wife Rita; his children, Tim (Chelsey), Luke (Laura), Monica and Theresa; his sisters, Joan Gronstal (Tom), Nancy Anderson and Janet Hendrickson (Scott Roos); and his brothers-in-law, Mark Lamkin (Cindy) and Chuck Lamkin. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
John's family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, to be sent to the Church of St. John the Evangelist, or Spirit Lake, Iowa Protective Association.
