He was predeceased by: his parents, Marlyn Leland and Fern Elaine Lindburg (Anderson); and his parents-in-law, Edward and Marian Rathbun. He is survived by: his wife Joy Ann Rathbun; his children, Shawna Simmons (Ted) of Lake Quivira, KS, Kory Martin (Jerry) of Tabor, Iowa, Tiffany Honeyman of Gretna, Iowa, Aaron Riley (Shannah) of Gilbert, Arizona, Thomas Riley (Jaime) of Minden, Iowa, Annie Moores (Jason) of Sidney, Iowa, Tessie Searl (Colby) of Clarinda, Iowa and Abbie (Cody) of Essex, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Lily, Lyla, Jacob Simmons, Grace, Mira, Sam Martin, Ava, Gavin, Taya Honeyman, Dillon, Desi, Dani, Dalton Riley, Jamison, Ellisyn, Easton, Kelynn Riley and Madison.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 1st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service (405 W Thomas Ave, Shenandoah, IA 51601). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the St. John's Lutheran Church (104 East St, Essex, IA 51638). A graveside service was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Essex Cemetery (1430 E Ave, Essex, IA 51638).
Memorials can be made to the John R. Lindburg Memorial Fund for later designation by the family.
