She was predeceased by: her parents, David Kassel and Hazel Kassel (Smith); her husband Howard Wendell Merrill; and her brother Kenneth Kassel. She is survived by: her sons, Douglas Howard (Marjory) of Emmetsburg and Craig David (Kathy) of Emmetsburg; her grandchildren, Bridget Merrill-Myhre (Craig) of Excelsior, MN, Brittany Hernandez (Aaron) of Windom, MN and Brian Merrill (Kendall) of Curlew, IA; her great grandchildren, Noah Hernandez, Macklan, Lexington Myhre and Elnora Merrill; and her sister Carol Scott of Springfield, MO..
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home (704 Grand Ave, Emmetsburg, IA 50536). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1st 2025 at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church (801 Broadway St, Emmetsburg, IA 50536).
Helen May Kassel, 93, was sent to her eternal home on February 23, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Helen was born September 11, 1931 on the family farm south of Ayrshire to David and Hazel (Smith) Kassel.
