He is survived by: his wife Vera Anne Trende of North Liberty, Iowa; his son Michael (Jill) of Coralville, Iowa; his granddaughter Katherine of Cambridge, Massachusetts; his siblings, Ruth Peterson of Ellsworth, Iowa, Stanley Valde of Ankeny, Frank Valde (Bette) of Eldora and Richard Valde (Shirley) of Rochester, Minnesota; and his sister-in-law Myra Phillips (Russ) of Joplin, Missouri..
