He was predeceased by: his wife Sharon Reinier Richardson; and his siblings, Sue Seyfert, Katherine Starrett, Deborah, Peter and James Karnstedt.

He is survived by: his children, Kortney McDermott (Mark) of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jill Yard of Lake George, Kimberly Booth (Michael) of Hampton, Iowa, Kurtis Richardson (Holly) of Pella, Iowa and Kent Richardson of Meeker, Colorado; his siblings, Mary of Minnesota, Mark (Sharon) of Minnesota, Paul of Minnesota and David Karnstedt of Minnesota; and his grandchildren, Marah, Taylor Booth, Samantha, Colton Richardson, Dylan, Alexis McDermott, John, Jamie and Jason Yard. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
