He is survived by: his wife Maxine Faye Balvanz; his son Kevin Boomgarden (Mary Jo) of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Megan Boomgarden, Erich Boomgarden (Elizabeth), Lisa Sheffels (Taylor), Craig Boomgarden (Shelley) of Eldora and Sarah Boomgarden (Carson Lutterman); his brother Heine Boomgarden (Judith) of Eldora; and his siblings-in-law, Keith Balvanz of Albion, Jerry Balvanz of Sacramento, California, Rowena Boomgarden of Denver, Imogene Boomgarden of Wellsburg and Darla Mabe of Mitchellville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
