He was predeceased by: his son J. J. Balvin; his brother Steve Balvin; and his nephew Erik Upah. He is survived by: his parents, Leonard Balvin and Florence Balvin (Kalinay) of Marshalltown; his father-in-law George Kutchanek; his wife Colleen Kutchanek of Elberon; his daughter Melynda Gropper (Tony) of Chelsea; and his siblings, Larry Balvin (Janet) of Chelsea, Ellen Upah (Tom) of Chelsea, Randy Balvin (Diane) of Brooklyn, Jamie Kupka (Paul) of Chelsea, Jerry Balvin (Val) of Chelsea, Dan Balvin of Belle Plaine, Sally Slaven (Steve "Boat") of Chelsea, Jason Balvin (Kelly) of Chelsea and Aaron Balvin (Melissa) of Chelsea. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
