He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Hoefer and Rose Hoefer (Tauke); his brother Daniel Hoefer; his parents-in-law, Vince and Bernice Short; his sister Doris; his brother-in-law Dick Putz; and his daughter-in-law Ellen Hoefer.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Hoefer of Earlville; his children, Gregory Hoefer of Peosta, David Hoefer (Molly) of Earlville and Tina Schellhorn (Mike) of Urbana, Iowa; his grandchildren, Emma, Rebecca Hoefer, Evan, MacKenzie Hoefer, Drew and Ellie Schellhorn; his sister Marlene Johnson (Allen) of Ankeny, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Helen Hoefer of Fairbank, Shirley Mae Short (Ron Nekola) of Jesup, Marg Rowland (Randy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Pat Decker of Winthrop, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
