He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Umstead and Nellie Umstead (McCutcheon); his brothers, LeRoy Umstead (Katherine), Robert Umstead (Rose), Paul Umstead (Maxine) and Lyden Umstead; his brother-in-law Dale Zeigler; and his nephews, Larry Umstead and David Zeigler.
He is survived by: his wife Delores Johnson; his children, Diane Umthun (Steve) of Cedar Falls and Steve Umstead Humboldt (Shelly); his grandchildren, Jennifer Weatherford (Eric), Brett Umthun (Megan), Kelsey Umthun, Jessica Harklau (Josh) and Jenna Kaufman (Dane); his great grandchildren, Ava, Silas, Kyren, Brecken, Draven and Edison; his sister Maxine Zeigler of Garner; and his sister-in-law Viola Umstead of Tucson, AZ.
