He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred "Fritz" Koopmann and Evelyn "Pearl" Koopmann (Kruse); his in-laws, Clarence and Eleanor Quint (Manternach); and his siblings, Donald Koopmann and Mary Heims (Lloyd).

He is survived by: his wife Doris Koopmann; his children, Susan Barrett (John) of North Liberty and Ryan Koopmann (Lynnette) of Dyersville; his grandchildren, Austin, Grace Barrett, Reese, Ronan and Rhett Koopmann; his siblings, Tony Koopmann (Eldora) and Joyce Westhoff (Mark); and his in-laws, Sandy Koopmann, Joann Hartman (Richard), Donna Puffett (George), Janet Burns (Ken) and Julie Kennedy (Jim). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.
