He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Hess and Mary Hess (Baum); his wife Rita Rauen; his siblings, A. Michael Hess, Ambrose Hess, Donald Hess, Florabelle Heiser, Geraldine Engler, Harold and Roland Hess; and his in-laws, Myrene Lattner, Theresa Milbert, Florence Callahan, Sylvester Rauen, Bill Rauen, Luella Beckman, Ardella Evans and Peter Rauen.
He is survived by: his children, Randy Hess of Dyersville, Ron Hess (Diane) of Uniontown, OH, Rhonda Vrchoticky (Bob) of Timnath, CO and Becky Gassmann (Tim) of Marion. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, April 27th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Monday, April 28th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Kramer Funeral Home (750 12th Ave SW, Dyersville, IA 52040). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 28th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica (104 3rd St SW, Dyersville, IA 52040). A burial was held on Monday, April 28th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at 450 8th St NW, Dyersville, IA 52040.
