He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hermsen and Florence Hermsen (Vaske); his son Mark; his daughter-in-law Lois Hermsen; his grandson Scott Hermsen; his parents-in-law, Andrew and Agnes Olberding; his siblings, Charles Hermsen, Ed Hermsen Jr. and Wilma; and his siblings-in-law, George Olberding, Richard, Alice Olberding, Gene Olberding and Shirley Hermsen.
He is survived by: his wife Grace Olberding; his children, Joseph Hermsen (Lynn) of Farley, Gary Hermsen of Luxemburg, Alan Hermsen (Debra) of Manchester, Mary Zuckerman (Howard) of Livonia, MI, Ann Dunkel (Pat) of Dyersville, Lisa Sweeney (David) of Tipton and Jane Bockenstedt (Brian) of Center Point; his daughter-in-law Cindy Hermsen of Dubuque; and his siblings-in-law, Sharon Hermsen of Dyersville, Jim Olberding (Katie) of Dyersville, Darlene Olberding of Dyersville and Shirley Olberding of Dyersville. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to the Ellen Kennedy Living Center or the NV/Luxemburg Fire Department.
