He was predeceased by: his parents, Vern Fredrick Garbes and Viola Ida Garbes (Wefel); his siblings, Jim, Vern, Jr., Roger, Barbara "Jane" Knebel and Rebecca Garbes; and his nephew Levi Knebel.
He is survived by: his wife Mavis of Dunkerton; his children, Jamie Smith (Patrick) of Dike, IA, Chelsea Brokaw (Joe) of Waterloo, IA and Nathan Garbes (Ashley) of Dunkerton, IA; his grandchildren, Seeri, Jaelyn, Linden, Myah Smith of Dike, Connor Garbes of Dunkerton and Kamrie Brokaw of Waterloo; his siblings, Larry Garbes (Ann), Judi Halbmaier (Dave) of Washburn, Linda Sickman and Patricia Hines (James) of Waterloo, IA.; and his siblings-in-law, Alvin Miller (Verla) of Parkersburg, IA, Rod Miller (Kathy) of Hampshire, IL and Lorraine Kuker of Omaha, NE..
