He was predeceased by: his parents, George Smrcina and Mary Smrcina (Tesar); and his siblings, Jim, John (Rosie), George (Norma), Francis "Bud" (Mary), Donald, Daniel, Alice McGrath (Joe), Marie Johnson, Ruth McGrath (Tom) and Shirley Meyer.
He is survived by: his wife Roberta "Bobbi" Berns; his children, Sue Pisarek (Jack) of Poulsbo, Sherri Kerr (Scott) of Monona and Steve Smrcina (Deb Downs) of Watertown, Massachusetts; his granddaughters, Katie Pisarek, Kristina Kerr and Kelli Kerr; and his siblings-in-law, Norm Johnson, Charlotte Smrcina and Laurayne Duerkop.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or Camp Courageous.
