He was predeceased by: his parents, Aloysius N. Gassmann and Leonette T. Kluesner Gassmann; his son Dr. Lyle A. J. Gassmann; his former wife Shirley Gassmann; and his siblings, John Gassmann (Betty), Marvin Gassmann (Patricia), LeRoy Gassmann, Robert Gassmann, Kenneth Gassmann, Sylvia Fitzgerald (Bob), Eileen Besler (William), Connie Luecke (Merle), Elizabeth Gotto (Sylvester) and Gladys Knepper (Paul).
He is survived by: his children, Rebecca McMahon (Michael) of Dubuque, Jeffrey Gassmann (Liz) of Mesa, AZ, Elizabeth "Beth Ann" Tabor of Cedar Falls, Susan Doughtery (Dennis) of Orland Park, IL, Lynn Hancock (Tony) of Dubuque, Michael Gassmann (Julie) of Lenexa, KS and Theresa Durrett (Brandon) of Henderson, TX; his siblings, Gerald Gassmann of Bettendorf, IA and Mary Agnes Schnier (Jim) of Bellevue, IA; and his sisters-in-law, Marge Gassmann of Asbury and Beverly Gassmann of Mississippi. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 14th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory (3860 Asbury Rd, Dubuque, IA 52002). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church-East Dubuque (170 Montgomery Ave, East Dubuque, IL 61025).
