He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Herbst and Armella Herbst (Thole); his former wife Deanna Miller; and his siblings, Robert Herbst, Louise McCarty and Jeanette Welu (Bob).
He is survived by: his wife Sheila Devaney; his son Michael Herbst (Nancy) of Virginia Beach, VA.; his grandchildren, Genna Swartz (Steve) and June Herbst; his son Mark Herbst (Shea) of Peosta, IA; his grandchildren, Quinn and Tate Herbst; his siblings, Paul Herbst (Pat) of Peosta, IA. and Charlotte Tindell (Bill); and also, Stella, Abel, Oscar Swartz, Christi Vermette (Paul) of Bettendorf, IA., Mark Melson (Stephanie) of Fairfax Station, VA. and Maureen Melson of Le Claire, IA.
Memorials may be given to the memory unit at Bethany Home in Dubuque and local Veterans organizations in the surrounding area.
