We are sad to announce that on November 8, 2023, at the age of 84, Gerald Bernard Schmitt of Dubuque, Iowa passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl G. Schmitt and Magdaline Schmitt (Tigges); his grandparents, Aegidius, Louise Tigges, Ben and Catherine Schmitt; and his siblings-in-law, Victor Stecher (LouAnn), Loras Stecher (Sue), Alfred Behnke, Lorraine Aird (Clem), Mary Hirsch (Alfred) and Eileen Fisher (Lawrence).
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Stecher; his children, Janann (Tscharner) and Kat Klauer (Greg) of Davenport, IA; his grandchildren, Dawn Herman (Tony) of Hazelton, IA, Emerald Klauer of Los Angeles, CA, Sienna Klauer of Mesa, AZ and C. J. Klauer of Davenport; his great grandchild Rose; his sister Pearl Stecher (Noel) of Dubuque; and his siblings-in-law, Loretta Behnke of Dubuque, Jeanne Stecher of Dubuque and Joseph Stecher (Carol) of Dubuque. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Resurrection School, Dubuque Regional Humane Society, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
