It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gene Kernall of Dubuque, Iowa, born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, who passed away on March 28, 2024, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Morris L. Kernall and Mae Kernall (Johnson); his spouse Jean Kotz; and his brothers, Alan, Glen and Wayne Kernall.

He is survived by: his children, Karen Freiburger (John), Scott Kernall (Rachel) and Kris Kernall (Mary); his grandchildren, Michael Freiburger (Shawna), Erin Runde (Tony), Alexis Avenarius (Jake Bohr), Brandon Avenarius, Ramsey Kernall (Mykenna) and Ty Kernall; his great grandchildren, Charlie, Fiona, Claire and Walker; and his sister-in-law Margaret Kotz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
