He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles J. Rooney, Sr. and Margaret Rooney (Murray); his daughter Renee Ashford; and his siblings, Charles "Chuck" Rooney, Mary Breitbach and Patricia Klossner.

He is survived by: his son Shawn Rooney (Michelle); his grandsons, Caleb Shearrow (Ashley), Tyler Shearrow, Blake Ashford, Brock Ashford, Jack Rooney and Colin Rooney; and his siblings, Mike Rooney (Tansy), Terrance Rooney (Alice), Donna Kuhle (Greg), Colleen Dotterweich (Jerry), Sharon Goldman (Gary Tappendorf), Paul Rooney (Mary Jo), Thomas Rooney, Margaret Sullivan (Tim) and Margie Sullivan.
