He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugo Thul and Marie Thul (Nichols); his wife Sharon Smith; his siblings, Dave Thul and Mildred Thiltgen; his siblings-in-law, Melvin Thiltgen, Ron Woock, William, Terrance Smith, Jack Hostert, Pat Thul, Linda Hanson, Unice, Kathy Jo and Lola Hostert; his son-in-law Wayne Laufenberg; his nephews, Lanny Hostert, David "Davey" Thul, Steve Thul and Tommy "Stubby" Thiltgen; and his niece Eileen Putchio.
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Laufenberg (Mike Goin) of La Motte, Danny Thul of Andrew, IA, Dennis Thul of Dubuque, Donnie Thul of Dubuque and Kathy Schwager (Brian) of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Corey (Nichole), Jason, Kara Laufenberg, Theresa Ward (Aaron), Megan Giorgenti (Tony), Dennis "Bud" Thul Jr. (Greg Ernzen), Kyle Siefker, Jake, Dylan Thul, Cole, Adelyn and Alyvia Schwager; his brother Dean Thul; and his siblings-in-law, Carole Thul, Shirley Woock and Ronnie Hanson. He is also survived by many great grandchildren.
