He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Eldon and Irene Knopp (Hess); his wife Joanne Cox; his parents-in-law, Don and Katie Cox; his grandson Nick Martin; and his close friend Cheryl Hillary.
He is survived by: his children, Lynn Benigno of Raymond, IA, Dianne Budig (Michael) of Dubuque, Cathy Vaassen (Tom) of Dubuque, Shelly Wittry (Mark) of Dubuque and Tony Knopp (Rhonda) of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Anthony, Kathryn, Michelle, Lindsey, Erica, Gretchen, Ben, Tyler and Leah; his brother-in-law Terry "Corky" Cox of Minneapolis, MN; and his uncle John Hess of Cedar Rapids, IA.. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
