He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Merges and Catherine Merges (Muenster); his siblings, Barbara, John, Florence, Peter, Frank, Agatha and Henry; his sisters-in-law, Veronica Merges and Ruth Merges; his nephews, Edmund Merges (Nancy) of Sherrill and Kevin Kane; his nephews-in-law, Don Kane and John Schreiber; and his niece-in-law Inez Merges.
He is survived by: his great-nephew Keith Kane of Dubuque; and his nieces and nephews, Marian Kane of Key West, Paul Merges of Peosta, Francis Merges (Jane) of Peosta, John Merges (Sheila) of Dubuque, Frank Merges (Eileen) of Dubuque, Rosemary Schreiber of Dubuque, Dorothy Steines (Leon) of Bernard and Teri Hohmann (Gene) of St. Catherine. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
