He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Leonard and Clara Croft O'Brien; his wife Norma Lee Forsythe; his grandchildren, Katie Duffield and Angel Hougland; and his children-in-law, Pat O'Brien and Dwight Hougland.
He is survived by: his children, Michael O'Brien of Corydon, David O'Brien (Nita) of Drakesville, Diana Olinger (Paul) of Ottumwa, Susan Hougland of Drakesville and Robin Licht (Noel) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and his siblings, Pat Swaim of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth Swaim (Jo Ann) of Drakesville, Connie King of Ottumwa and Sheila Hopkins (Ralph) of Bloomfield. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
