He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Kelly and Minnie Kelly; his parents-in-law, Marvin and Marie Hoek; and his brother-in-law Bill Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Verdona Hoek; his son David Kelly (Frances) of Shueyville; his grandchildren, Walker and Madden Halapua; his daughter Susan Keegan (Mark) of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Trevan and Brycen; his son Stephen Kelly (Katie) of Tega Cay; his grandchildren, Oliver and Quinn; his siblings, Mary Therese Smith of Halifax and Dan Kelly of Denville; and his siblings-in-law, Neil Hoek (Jan), Marvin Hoek (Pat), Jerry Hoek (Linda) and Barb Wildermuth (Dan). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Following a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, Jim retired from farming in 2016 and enjoyed retirement years of "hobby farming," and spending time with family and friends. He also took up boxing at Rock Steady Boxing, an exercise program for those with Parkinson's Disease, at the Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
