He was predeceased by: his parents, Willem Roekel and Willemina Van Roekel (Teunissen); his wife Wilma Van Grootheest; his parents-in-law, Henry and Gertie Van Grootheest; and his siblings-in-law, Ed Van Grootheest, Tena Van Muyden, Don and Grace Van Hill.
He is survived by: his sons, Willis, Willie Van Roekel (Glo) of Rock Rapids and Henry Van Roekel (Trissa) of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Amy De Boer (Darrin), Amanda Huisman, Taylor Heyer (Kaleb) and Zachary Van Roekel; his great grandchildren, Bailey, Mason De Boer, Josie, Kyndra, Kelsey and CJ Huisman; his siblings, Bertha Van Grootheest and Case Van Roekel; his sister-in-law Betty Piscitella; and also Rock Valley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Doon Rescue Squad.
