He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Gabel and Helen Gabel (Wagner); his wife Alice I. LaVelle; his brother Duane; and his son-in-law Marty Hellweg.
He is survived by: his daughters, Barb Boeding (Flavian) of West Point and Janet Hellweg of West Point, Iowa; his grandson Justin Knight (Deana) of Donnellson, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Jack Smith and Dorothy Menge. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
