With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Martin Todd Engelen (Des Moines, Iowa), who passed away on January 2, 2025 at the age of 62. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

In the vast expanse of eternity, may Martin Todd find peace everlasting, cradled in the gentle embrace of the universe. And as we stand on the shores of remembrance, may his legacy inspire us to live each day with purpose, passion, and profound gratitude for the gift of life itself.

He was predeceased by: his mother Marihelen Engelen (Fister). He is survived by: his siblings, Mark Engelen (Pam) and Marva Dillon (Matt); his children, Matthew, Emily Peterson (Neil) and Sabrina; and the mother of his children Angela Engelen.

Visitation was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church (1230 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, IA 50311). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making charitable donations to the American Heart Association in Marty's memory.

John Hanks wrote a sympathy message

“I’m so very sorry to hear this news. The Hanks, Engelen and Soener families have a long history even though we may have been separated by many miles since our high school days. Marty was always a man who knew where he stood and was firm in his convictions. (Even as a kid!) I am saddened that Marty has left us so soon. Far too young to say goodbye. Sending love and prayers to both the Soener and Engelen families during this difficult time. Love you all, John Hanks”
