Margaret Ellen Pedrick Obituary
(nee Hess), 102, died peacefully on February 4 at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc, Wis.
Margaret was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Johnson County, Iowa, to Gottlieb and Erma Hess. After being raised on an Iowa farm, she longed to experience life in a city. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where she studied to become a beautician. While attending a dance in Des Moines following the conclusion of World War II, she met John L. Pedrick. They married on March 1, 1946, in Keota, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the Chicago area and Washington, D.C., before eventually settling in Wauwatosa, Wis., in 1955. She resided in Wauwatosa until 2020, when she moved to Shorehaven.
Margaret was the loving mother of two children: Bruce (Marlys), Cambridge, Wis., and Laura (David Allen), Fox Point, Wis. She was also the proud grandmother of: Nicole Pedrick, Cottage Grove, Wis.; John Pedrick, London, Wis.; Meg Allen, St. Paul, Minn.; and Carrie Allen, Orlando, Fla. She was the proud great grandmother of Gavin Smith, Cottage Grove, Wis.
Margaret enjoyed a long and active life. She welcomed all into her home and life and always brought a positive attitude to any event or task she faced. She was an active member of the former Calvary Memorial United Church of Christ in Wauwatosa, helping staff day care and running the church's thrift center for many years. She loved to dance and continued to dance into her 90s. The sound of big band music always brought a smile to her face and a sparkle to her eyes. She loved to garden and was extremely proud of her Wauwatosa home and gardens. In addition, she was a skilled cook and baker. No visitor ever left her house without sampling a treat from her kitchen!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband John, who died in 1992. Together they enjoyed many adventures, traveling widely. She was also preceded in death by Fred Schumy in 2016, a special friend who brought great joy (and dancing) to her life in her later years. She was very close to Fred's family as well. She was preceded in death by her brother, Meeker, and sister, Lorena.
Margaret's family would like express special thanks to the talented and caring staff at Shorehaven and Legacy Hospice. Their hard work and compassion made Margaret's later years easier.
A remembrance gathering will be held on February 14 at 3pm at Schmidt and Bartelt in Wauwatosa (visitation from 2-3pm).
