He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Cardenas and Maria Cardenas; his former wife Alice Cardenas; and his wife Arlene Cardenas (Chia). He is survived by: his children, Anthony Cardenas (Rose), David Negrete (Kayla) and Mary Fran Downs (Daniel); his grandchildren, Joseph (Julie Cunningham), Andrea, Tonia Cardenas, Brennan and Brock Negrete; his great grandchildren, A. J. (Hannah Ogle), Lejla, Miguel, Meleck Cardenas, Rae and Luca Negrete; and his great great grandchildren, Kiya Cardenas, Charlie and Brooklyn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in appreciation of their care of Louis.
