He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Gering and Charlotte Gering (Keul); and his siblings, Virginia Foster, JoAnn Bird and Leonard Gering.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Gladfelder; his daughter Debbie Harmeyer (Bob); his stepchildren, Mindy Jordan and Greg Gladfelder; his grandchildren, Brandon Emerson (Jen), Josh Emerson, Nick Jordan, Travis Jordan, Annie Harmeyer, Sam Harmeyer and Jeff Harmeyer; his great grandchildren, Mackenzie Emerson and Carson Emerson; and his siblings, Judy Bellizzi, JoAnn Slater and Rick Gering. He is also survived by his seven step great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 19th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home (5400 SW 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50315).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue in loving memory of Joe.
