He was predeceased by: his parents, John Harrington Sr. (Jack) and Norma Ruth Harrington; and his brother Timothy Harrington. He is survived by: his wife Kellie Marie Harrington; his sons, John Michael Harrington III (Sara Elizabeth) and Brian William Harrington; his siblings, Kevin Harrington, Mark Harrington and Molly Harrington; and his grandchildren, Jack of Des Moines, Samuel of Des Moines and Margaret Harrington of Des Moines.

Visitation was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Basilica of St. John (1915 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50314). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
