He was predeceased by: his sister JoAnn Herzberg; and his nephew Thomas Rankin. He is survived by: his wife Marie of Des Moines; his children, Natalie Mote (Dave) of Des Moines and Philip Rankin (Kristen) of Chagrin Falls, OH; his grandchildren, August (Gus), Margretta Mote (Greta), Elizabeth Rankin, Julianne Rankin and John Rankin; and his siblings, Garry Rankin of Bedford, Frank Rankin (Carol) of Ankeny, Danny Rankin (Beth) of Vista, CA and Donna Rankin (Bill) of Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the family for the planting of a tree or to Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.
