He was predeceased by: his wife Joan; his parents, Grace McFarland and Dennis McFarland; his sisters, Catherine Moore and Vera Holman; his granddaughter Nicki Emelo; and his niece Denise Moore.
He is survived by: his children, David McFarland, Brenda Emelo and Mary Ann Smith (Dennis). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery (1 NE 60th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313).
