He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Nelson and Astrid Nelson; his wife Judy; his stepmother Mathilda; his sisters, Pearl and Carol; and his nephew Duane.
He is survived by: his sons, Bryan Nelson (Sarah) and Scott Nelson (Tammy); his grandchildren, Rachael, BreeAnna and Jacob; his nieces and nephews, Cindy Rhodes (Gus), Julie Hillrichs, Doug Hillrichs (Ingrid), Sue Rosenbluth (Paul), Dave Cadwell (Becky), Colleen Grell (Tim) and Don Cadwell (Leann); and his cousin Les Nelson (Val).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 18th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Calendar Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory (8201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, IA 50322). A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, February 19th 2025 at 3:30 PM at the Valley View Village Chapel (2571 Guthrie Ave, Des Moines, IA 50317). The military honors was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Memorial Park Cemetery (6605 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA 51106).
