He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Petersen and Mary Lou Petersen (Post); and his brother Jay Petersen. He is survived by: his wife Donna Irwin; his daughters, Amber and Arielle; and his siblings, Sue Carlisle and Kevin Petersen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
