He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Kurtt and Christine Kurtt (Schmidt); his wife Mildred "Millie" Diercks; and his siblings, Dorothea Gleason, Marie Meyne, Elnora Brunstein, Bobbi Ecker Blatchford, Frieda Kurtt, Erwin Kurtt and Harold Kurtt.
He is survived by: his daughters, Pat Leonhart (Gene) of Denver, Kris Freeman (Dave) of Palatine, Jody Kurtt of Cedar Rapids and Kerry Thies (Greg) of Denver; his grandchildren, Dave Leonhart (Jaime), Amy Lockhart (Ryan), Amanda Zavilla (Eric), Ben Freeman (Jaime), Marcus Kenney (Tiffani), Ethan Thies (Becca), Joe Kenney and Hannah Thies; and his brother John Kurtt (Laurel) of Waverly. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
