He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil John and Inez Bonar (Henderson); and his sisters, Nora Pitts, Wanda Riddle and Lucille Sweeney.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Bonar of Denmark; his children, John Bonar (DeAnne) of Denmark, Jane Block (Bill) of Wever, Iowa and Julie Helling (Brian) of Burlington, Iowa; his siblings, Betty Pumphrey of Denmark and Harold Bonar (Nadine) of Wever; his grandchildren, Breana Houtz (Eric), Brandon Bonar (Natalie), Braxton Block, Abby Straube (Matt) and Ely Helling; his great grandchildren, Zane, Zikayla, Braxton Jr., Gracie, Griffin, Gwen and Corbin; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Zac and Zoey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established for Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ and Denmark Fire and Rescue, contributions may be mailed to or left at Barr Memorial Chapel, 1919 Ave F, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.
