He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Gilbertson and Isabelle Gilbertson (Bakken); his wife Charleen "Chuckie" Gilbertson; and his siblings, Orin, Vernon Gilbertson, Olive Hotvedt, Arline Edde, Margaret Kruchek and Inez Berge.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Holthaus (Don) of Ossian, IA, Wanda Steffen (Mark) of Calmar, IA, Kathy "Gilby" Smith (Lunch) of Decorah, Kevin Gilbertson (Linda) of Decorah and Bob Gilbertson (Christine) of Marshalltown, IA; his grandchildren, Chris Holthaus, Jennifer Stanbrough (Chris "Pup"), Erin Montoya (William), Devin Gilbertson (Sam), Bridget Lutz (Jeremy), Tyler Smith (Emily), Casey Smith, Lindsay Smith, Charlie Gilbertson, Kyan Gilbertson and Faye Gilbertson; and his sister Norma Rosendahl of Osage, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
