He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Carl Tjostem and Linda Tjostem (Carlson); his sister Sylvia Christopherson; his wife Karen (Voxland); his grandchildren, Allison, Peter, Linnea, Andrew, Kaitlin, Kasia and Patrick; his son David; his brother-in-law Ed Christopherson; his children, Paul (Anne Collingwood) and Ann (Jim Kephart); his daughter-in-law Kathy Dobney; his great grandchildren, Allison, Andrew Tjossem-Henrik, Iver, Sigrid, Soren, Peter, Alice Kephart-John, Linnea, Dylan Henning-Leander, Andrew Kephart, Gracie Mohr, Kaitlin Tjostem, Patrick Johnson, Kasia Johnson, Sean, Logan (Madison) and Joseph Collingwood; his sister Syliva Christopherson; his nephew Mark Christopherson; his niece Sara Schueler; and his brother-in-law Phil Voxland.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, August 29th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Decorah Lutheran Church (309 Winnebago St, Decorah, IA 52101).
John was recognized by the state of Iowa for his contribution to the Iowa ground water protection act.
