He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Wells and Betty Wells (Kuehl); his daughter Rhonda Montgomery; his granddaughter Valerian Garrard; and his brother Terry Montgomery.

He is survived by: his wife Dorella Montgomery; his children, Curtis Wheeler (Penny), Randy Montgomery (Kristy), Shane Montgomery, Heather Bell, Bobbi McClendon (Hailey Vontrell), Michael Holmes (Ruth) and Jay Holmes (Erlyn); his grandson TrayVontyah Harris; his nieces and nephews, Ivory Lovell and Randy Farrell; and his brother Larry Montgomery. He is also survived by many many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At the wishes of Ronald his body has been donated to the Deeded Body Program at The University of Iowa.
